About Dr. Slater
Cathy Allen Slater, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr Cathy Slater is a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She received her Batchelor of Arts from the College of William & Mary. Dr Slater attended graduate school at Harvard University, where she received a Master of Public Health, and she attended medical school at Duke University where she received her Doctorate of Medicine. She completed her internship, residency, and Chief residency at Srong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.
Dr. Slater has been the recipient of the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award for service, the Upjohn Research Award, and a British Association of Dermatology Travel Fellowship. Her publications include articles in JAMA, the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, and others. Dr. Slater completed a three month Laser and Cosmetic Fellowship in 2000 with Dr. David McDaniel, a nationally known Laser Specialist. She co-authored with Dr. McDaniel a book chapter on Alexandrite Laser, which is in the current edition of Principles and Practices in Cutaneous Laser Surgery. Dr. Slater has in the past had appointments as Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at ECU School of Medicine, where she was voted Outstanding Teacher in Dermatology in 1997, and as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at UNC School of Medicine.
Dr. Slater and her husband, Doug Slater, M.D., have three children. Dr. Slater and her family have spent several years serving overseas in medical missionary work at Ecole St. Vincent in Haiti, at Voz Andes Hospital in Ecuador, at Tenwek Hospital in Kenya, and with Samaritan's Purse in Moscow, Russia. She and her husband continue to go on short term medical mission trips, including trips to far east Russia, Kazakhstan, India and most recently to Honduras.
In addition to practicing Dermatology, Dr. Slater enjoys golf and has been a previous past Women's Champion at her home club.
