Skin Cancer
One in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime (JAMA 2005; 294:1541), which means that careful and thorough skin exams are of the utmost importance. Central to our practice is the monitoring and treatment of basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma, utilizing different therapies including biopsy, excision and closure, electrodessication and curettage, and adjunctive topical chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Preventive strategies are emphasized.
Diseases of the Skin
All skin conditions are treated: acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, contact, dermatitis (patch testing), hair loss, infections, blistering disorders, itchy skin, lupus, hives, nail disorders, warts, malignant and benign growths, all rashes.
Cryosurgery
Cryosurgery involves the application of liquid nitrogen to freeze and remove many common lesions found on the skin, such as actinic keratoses (precancerous pink rough spots), lentigos (light brown flat spots), seborrheic keratoses ("the barnacles of old age"), and other growths.
Skin Rejuvenation
Improving sun-damaged skin can be achieved by a variety of different treatments. Dr. Slater personally evaluates each patient to determine the best approach for addressing his or her concerns. Treatments include: prescription creams such as Tri Luma or Renova, or in office products including Prevage, Teamine, MD Forte, and Skin Medica skin care treatments; chemical peels with Vitalize Peel or Iluminize Peel; BOTOX for dynamic lines; and Injectible fillers for nasolabial folds and lines around the lips.
BOTOX Cosmetic
Frown lines are dynamic lines caused by overactive mucles that can usually be treated with tiny injections of BOTOX Cosmetics. Used therapeutically for over 17 years, BOTOX can be used to reduce or eliminate not only frown lines, but also forehead wrinkles, crow's feet, bunny lines, and excessive sweating under the arms. BOTOX is a quick and minimally invasive procedure consisting of a few tiny injections. No anesthesia is required, though the area can be numbed with a cold pack or numbing cream prior to injection. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes, and there in no downtime afterward.

Dermal Filler Injections
JUVÉDERM™ and Restylane are clear injectible gels that are made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is found throughout the body. The filler instantly smooothes out those wrinkles and folds that look like parentheses along the side of your nose and mouth as well as wrinkles around the lips. The results are smooth and natural and last from six to eight months, and sometimes longer.
Radiesse is a calcium hydroxylapatite gel, which is also a natural and biodegradable product that works best in the nasolabial fold. Results may last a year or more. Anesthesia is performed first to reduce pain of injection and for your comfort.
LATISSE for Longer Eyelashes
LATISSE solution is a prescription treatment used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker, and darker. The majority of LATISSE users saw a significant improvement by 2 months. Only LATISSE has been approved by the FDA as a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis (inadequate or not enough eyelashes).
LATISSE is available by prescription only. To learn more about LATISSE go to www.latisse.com.
Chemical Peels
Vitalize peel from SkinMedica brings the benefits of alpha-hydroxy acid and other peeling agents in a unique blend to provide an effecive, but gentle treatment that is appropriate for all skin types. Vitalize Peel has been clinically proven to help reduce the visible signs of aging. After one peel, you should notice an improvement in skin texture and tone and lessening of fine lines. Generally results are cumulative and maximum benefits are seen with a series of three or more peels at three weeks apart.
Patients with sun-damaged, aging, blemish-prone, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, melasma or general poor skin quality will benefit most. Vitalize Peels take approximately 20 minutes and there is little or no downtime. The amount of peeling varies from mild flaking to noticable peeling.
Illumize Peel, also from SkinMedica, is an even more gentle peel with little or no visible peeling. This is an ideal peel for those with sensitive skin who want to increase skin glow and radiance with minimal discomfort and low irration. The Illumize Peel is gentle enough to use every two weeks until desired results are achieved. Generally results are cumulative and maximum benefits are seen with a series of three or more peels.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a simple, safe procedure to reduce superficial spider veins on the legs. Veins are injected with a sclerosing solution, which causes them to collapse and fade from view. This procedure is best done during the fall or winter to allow time for treated veins to fade before summer weather. Sclerotherapy not only improves the appearance of spider veins on the legs, but also may reduce associated symptoms such as aching, burning, and cramps.
