Cathy Allen Slater, MD, MPH

Dr. Cathy Slater is a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She received her Batchelor of Arts from the College of William & Mary, and she attended graduate school at Harvard University, where she received a Master of Public Health. Dr. Slater attended medical school at Duke University where she received her Doctorate of Medicine. She completed her internship, residency, and Chief residency at Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, where she studied under Dr. Lowell Goldsmith.
Dr. Slater has been the recipient of the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award for service, the Upjohn Research Award, and a British Association of Dermatology Travel Fellowship. Her publications include articles in JAMA, the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, and others. Dr. Slater completed a three month Laser and Cosmetic Fellowship in 2000 with Dr. David McDaniel, a nationally known Laser Specialist. She co-authored with Dr. McDaniel a book chapter on the Alexandrite Laser, in Principles and Practices in Cutaneous Laser Surgery. Dr. Slater has had over a decade of experience with skin rejuvenation using Botox and fillers.
Dr. Slater has had appointments as Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at ECU School of Medicine, where she was voted Outstanding Teacher in Dermatology in 1997, and as a current Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at UNC School of Medicine.
Dr. Slater and her husband, Dr. Doug Slater, have three grown children. Before moving back to Rocky Mount in 1996, Dr. Slater and her family spent time serving overseas at different medical missionary sites, including Ecole St. Vincent in Haiti, at Voz Andes Hospital in Ecuador, at Tenwek Hospital in Kenya, and with Samaritan's Purse in Moscow, Russia. She and her husband continue to go on short term medical mission trips, including trips to far east Russia, Kazakstan, India, Honduras and most recently to Haiti.
In addition to practicing Dermatology, Dr. Slater is an active member of Englewood Baptist Church. She enjoys golf and has been a past Women's Champion at her home club.
Pam Barnes, Office Manager
Pam Barnes is the office manager of Slater Dermatology and keeps the practice up and running. Mrs.Barnes achieved an impressive and rewarding career as a public school educator for 35 years, teaching third through ninth grade.
Not ready for a life of leisure, Mrs. Barnes joined Slater Dermatology in 2010. Unfazed by the health care labyrinth, Mrs. Barnes tackled the challenge of medical office administration, mastering both electronic practice management and Medicare billing. Mrs. Barnes has completed training and certification in Medicare OIG compliance and is our in house certified HIPPA officer. In addition, she has invaluably assisted Dr. Slater in developing and fulfilling EMR compliance goals and recently spearheaded the formation of our updated website for Slater Dermatology.
Mrs. Barnes, and her husband Jerry, have two grown children and three wonderful grandchildren. She enjoys reading, going to the beach and gym, and visiting her children. Mrs. Barnes is an active member of Englewood Baptist Church. She is actively involved in Prime Timers and is coordinator of the 24- hour Prayer Ministry.
Kim Stauffer, LPN
Kim Stauffer is a kind and thorough nurse, who attends to our patient's health care needs. A licensed LPN, Kim is accomplished at Dermatology nursing skills, including maintenance of electronic health records, overseeing all surgical equipment, and autoclaving, managing pathology records, and assisting in Dermatologic surgery. In addition, Mrs. Stauffer supervises and administers the Blu Light Photodynamic Unit.
Before embarking on nursing, Mrs. Stauffer had a diverse and interesting career. Her previous work has included being a small business owner, bank teller, nail technician, and a stay-at-home mom. One of Kim's future goals is to return to school to pursue her RN degree.
Kim lives in Rocky Mount with her husband, Mark, and sons, Fuller, Andrew, and Michael. She attends Englewood Baptist Church and is actively involved in the music ministry and is most well known for her singing. A gift fom God, Kim shares her voice as a ministry at church and many various public functions. In addition to singing, Kim enjoys attending her boys' soccer, basketball, and baseball games.
